Spencer Price was born April 4th, 1964 in Acworth, Georgia and grew up on a farm near Thomaston. After graduating from Upson County High School, he attended Mercer University in Macon where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Biology. Later, he earned a Doctorate of Medicine degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Dr. Price practiced office-based internal medicine for several years before transitioning into full-time emergency medicine. He currently serves as director of the Dodge County Hospital Emergency Department in Eastman. Spencer recently earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Mercer's Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics and is currently working toward a Juris Doctorate degree from Mercer's Walter F. George School of Law.
Spencer is a 16-year veteran of the Georgia Army National Guard. Currently a lieutenant colonel, he has served in numerous state and federal call-ups and in several foreign countries including Nicaragua and the Republic of Georgia. In 2005, he completed a combat rotation in Iraq where he served as a battalion surgeon for an infantry battalion. LTC Price is a graduate of the U.S. Army Officer Basic Course, Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Combat Casualty Care Course, and Medical Management of Chemical and Biological Casualties Course, as well as the Airborne, Air Assault, and Flight Surgeon courses. In addition, he recently attended the Homeland Security Medical Executive Course conducted through the U.S. Army's Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute and the Global Medicine course conducted through the U.S. Air Force School of Aviation Medicine and is enrolled in the Intermediate-Level Education Course at the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He has earned numerous honors and awards and, in 1999, received both the Georgia Army National Guard's William Few Award and the U.S. Army's General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award naming him among the top company-grade officers in the nation. He recently returned from a combat deployment to Afghanistan where he served as a brigade surgeon.
A flight surgeon, LTC Price currently serves as Chief, Aviation Medicine, Georgia Army National Guard and is a member of the DOD/NASA Space Operations Medical Support Team for the Space Shuttle program. He has participated in several Space Shuttle support missions and training exercises.
A published author, Spencer is a former newspaper staff writer and has written numerous magazine articles. Currently, his conservative political column appears weekly in several Georgia newspapers.
Spencer is involved in numerous civic activities and serves as chairman of the Middle Flint Friends of the NRA. He is a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Macon and, in addition, is a member of several organizations including Veterans of Foreign Wars (Life Member), National Rifle Association (Life and Golden Eagle Member), National Guard Association of the United States, Military Officers Association of America, Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, Army Aviation Association of America, Georgia Geriatric Society, Middle Georgia Cattlemen's Association, American Angus Association, American Quarter Horse Association, National Geographic Society and, Ducks Unlimited. He is the former chairman of the Upson County Republican Party.
Spencer raises registered Black Angus cattle and has two Yellow Labrador retrievers, Dutch and Gracie. He is an avid runner, enjoys horseback riding, and follows government closely. His academic interests include, among others, national security issues, military history, insurgency and counter-insurgency warfare, and constitutional law.
